13. THE QUESTON WAS
..After
a difficult spiritual struggle, St. Augustine surrendered himself to Christ
fully, and pledged what?
a.
Money to public television
b.
allegiance to the African flag
c.
chastity until death
THE ANSWER IS
. C
.He vowed to be chaste for the rest of
his life.
St. Augustine wanted to surrender
himself to the Lord, but at first was not strong enough in his faith. He tried
to postpone the inevitable by saying: "Lord,
give me chastity... but not yet."
But
then he prayed over the Bible verses: and read, "Let
us throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us
conduct ourselves properly as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness; not
in sexual excess and lust; not in quarreling and jealousy. Rather put on the
Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the desires of the flesh."
(Romans 13:12-13)
St.
Augustines heart was
converted more deeply. He promised to be chaste for life, to give up his plan
to marry, and to give up pleasures of this world.
