12.  THE QUESTION WAS: Do we have a moral responsibility to avoid the “near occasions of sin”?

Answer: Yes, we must avoid the near occasions of sin (which are the external circumstances – whether of things or persons – which either because of their special nature or because of the frailty common to humanity or peculiar to some individual, incite or entice one to sin” (Catholic Encyclopedia).

So, whether it be watching a certain movie or hanging around a certain person, placing oneself in a circumstance known to lead you into mortal sin would be a mortal sin.

The Bible says,  “He that loveth danger shall perish in it.” (Ecclesiasticus 3:27)
